Alicona has expanded its surface metrology range with an automated measurement solution based on its range of measurement systems.
Based on a collaborative robot, chosen according to the weight and size of the component to be measured, the system can be used with Alicona's InfiniteFocus SL and G5 range. It can also be adapted to existing Alicona systems if necessary.
This automated system allows measurements to be made without human intervention or variability, which ensures consistent, accurate and connected results. Users have defined rights for the specific tasks they have to perform. The cobot software is integrated into Alicona's automation manager for seamless programming of the measurement task. Because the collaborative robot can be moved manually, it makes it easy to program the measurement cycle in "Teaching" mode, so the program can be memorized for later use.
The cobot grip system is designed for each type of component, it can be easily exchanged when different types of components need to be measured. The results can be compared to CAD data or a standard part, and the user can obtain a compliant or non-compliant result through a signaling system. Components that fail or meet inspection criteria are placed on appropriate pallets to continue the process or be returned for rework or disposal if necessary.
Combined with the InfiniteFocus SL, the Pick and Place can be used to measure features such as "Z" topographic data, XY data, small rays, and room surface condition. If used with the InfiniteFocus G5 equipped with a rotating axis, circular or cylindrical components can also be measured.
The systems are perfectly suited to geometric and surface measurement in the production of small batches of precision parts.
Measurement capabilities (depending on optical magnification) include Z resolutions from 20 nm, a measured height range of up to 26mm, and Ra values of up to 0.08 m, software is included for surface state measurement and profileometry.
