Bruno Sainjon, Chairman and CEO of Onera, and Stéphane Torrez, Chairman of Sopemea, signed a partnership agreement on Tuesday November 8 at Sopemea's head office in Vélizy-Villacoublay, France. The aim of the agreement is to pool their expertise in modal analysis to meet the needs of aerospace manufacturers both nationally and internationally.
Onera and Sopemea carry out modal identification tests for aircraft manufacturers. These ground vibration tests or GVT (Ground Vibration Testing) are essential in the life of an aircraft, as they precede its maiden flight. For this structural check-up, the heavily instrumented aircraft is subjected to vibratory stresses in several directions, in order to identify its dynamic behavior. The data acquired during these tests is then analyzed and transmitted to the aircraft manufacturer, who can then recalibrate its numerical models to verify that the aircraft is indeed ready for safe flight.
Onera and Sopemea have complementary expertise in the field of ground vibration testing:
- Onera develops and implements the resources and methods needed to carry out vibration tests on all types of aircraft, depending on the intended purpose (recalibration of structural models, determination of the aeroelastic stability domain of tested configurations, etc.).
- Sopemea carries out aircraft vibration tests, and also modal identification tests in other fields: railways, energy...
