The Trust Chair at Grenoble INP - Esisar in Valence was inaugurated on November 10. Dedicated to trust in safety systems, this is the eighth Chair of Industrial Excellence that the Grenoble INP Foundation has successfully supported.
The Trust Chair was born out of the joint desire of the engineering school, the LCIS laboratory (systems design and integration laboratory) and leading manufacturers in their markets (Ingénico, SKF, Innovista Sensor and GrDF) to pool resources, experience and needs with regard to the safety and reliability of complex systems (mechanical, electronic, radio-frequency and IT).
Its aim is to strengthen research and teaching in these areas, which will be used extensively by the development of the huge new market for the Internet of Things and related services.
The theme of this new Chair is trust in systems. It has a threefold objective: to develop excellence, consolidate the pedagogical project and strengthen laboratory-to-industry technology transfer.
Confidence in systems at the heart of research
A trusted system must be robust and resilient to ensure the proper execution of its intended functions, and guarantee the authenticity, integrity and reputation of its components. Finally, it must ensure the confidentiality of the information it handles, and control access to it. The design of complex, embedded and communicating systems must take into account and control each level and its interactions. Methods must be implemented to guarantee overall system quality. The priority of the research work to be carried out as part of this Chair is to address the issue of trust in systems, both in terms of the integration of the different layers and the various attributes associated with them.
