Konica Minolta announces that the company will launch a new series of portable spectrophotometers for the measurement of high precision color. The dual-opening CM26d and the single-opening CM25d will be presented in March 2019, while the flagship CM26dG model for simultaneous colour and brightness measurements will join later in 2019.
The CM-26dG, CM-26d and CM-25d are the successors to the CM-2600d and CM-2500d spectrophotometers widely used in the automotive and information and communication technology sectors. These products are mainly used at production sites that manufacture and assemble interior parts for automobiles and exterior parts for smartphones and tablets. Their replacements will increase efficiency and productivity by enabling digital management of color data throughout increasingly globalized supply chains.
The CM-26dG is a "two-in-one" spectrophotometer capable of simultaneously measuring color and shine, all in a case of only 660 g. It will increase performance when checking large quantities of samples, significantly improving the speed and accuracy of the inspection process.
The new set of instruments provides unmatched levels of inter-instrument agreement, only achieved by reference laboratory instruments. This allows these devices to be used for quality control throughout the supply chain, from component manufacturers to finished products. The inter-instrument agreement (average for 12 BCRA colored ceramics) is less than 0.12 for the CM-26dG and CM-26d models, a gain of about 40% compared to previous models.
This measure paves the way for fully digital color data management (color management exclusively based on digital color data without having to use physical coloured standards in factories and the supply chain). Removing the exchange of physical standards, storing them and tracking them will generate considerable savings in terms of costs, time to market and eliminate waste generated by misuse, alteration or wear.
The Job function allows measurement instructions (including photographs) to be recorded in the instrument for repetitive tasks. This feature will improve the accuracy, productivity and consistency of processes, regardless of operators' skill differences.
The CM-26dG and CM-26d can swap between 8mm and 3mm measurement zones (the CM-25d has a fixed measurement zone of 8mm) to measure parts of different sizes. All models are also equipped with an illuminated viewfinder for accurate pointing of small areas.
Measure faster and improve resistance for increased efficiency and reduced downtime
For mass-produced products such as smartphones, thousands of quality checks are carried out every day. They require short measurement times and intervals, as well as a long lifespan of the instruments. The CM-26dG series meets both of these requirements. The CM-26dG takes only about 1 second with an interval of 2 seconds to measure color and shine. In addition, its resistance in terms of measurement cycles has been significantly improved compared to previous models. The speed of inspection combined with equipment strength increases efficiency while reducing downtime.
