With Sitrans Probe LU240, Siemens is launching a new ultrasonic level transmitter with built-in Hart communication, a robust device that provides reliable level, volume and flow measurements. Designed to meet the challenges of the environmental sector, it is also suitable for applications in the chemical and agri-food industries. The Sitrans Probe LU240 provides reliable measurement values and reacts quickly to any changes in material levels thanks to its proven "Sonic Intelligence" echo processing technique, which differentiates useful echoes from parasitic echoes. Its reduced dead zone further increases the reliability of measurements, even at high filling levels.
The device can be programmed via the four keys of its user interface or remotely via the Simatic Process Device Manager (PDM) tool, making it easier to get into service. Its transparent hood, which allows a direct reading of the measurement values without opening the hood, saves the operator time and maintenance costs. In addition to acquiring process parameters such as levels, volumes and throughputs, the Sitrans LU240 now offers the ability to display temperatures. Thanks to its low start-up current of 3.55 mA and its minimum power voltage of 10.5V, the device can also be powered by batteries or solar energy.
In applications that are at risk of clogging or deposition of impurities, the self-cleaning "Active Face" technology ensures the cleanliness of the transmitter surface and avoids additional maintenance operations. With its coated electronics and encapsulated sensor, the device also offers IP68 protection that makes it extremely resistant to corrosion, chemicals and extreme shocks. Environmental conditions such as wind, rain and temperature changes also have no impact on the measurement.
The sitrans LU240's scanning capabilities allow important data to be transferred from the field level to the facility's centralized control station, opening up new possibilities for process analysis and identifying potential points for improvement. By connecting the Sitrans Probe LU240 to a centralized control system, the operator can monitor filling levels from the control room or use a solution from Siemens' automation or tele-driving product portfolio to access data remotely.
