3D scanner designer Peel 3d presents Peel 2, a new version of its scanner which, with its three cameras, enables, according to the Quebec company, "the color of objects to be captured with a digital precision never before achieved for a device in this category."
Two years after breaking into the market with Peel 1, a professional-grade scanner for small budgets now successfully distributed in over 30 countries, Peel 3d is back with a more powerful, yet just as easy-to-use device as its predecessor.
"Peel 2 pushes all technical boundaries and redefines the concept of affordable 3D scanners. It will appeal as much to artists who want to go digital as to medical professionals who want to digitize the human body, or mechanics who work from existing components. It's by far the most complete entry-level tool on the market," says François Leclerc, head of the Peel 3d initiative.
Life in color
Borrowed from high-end 3D scanners, Peel 2's new color capture function opens up a whole new world of possibilities for users. Users will finally be able to archive objects in high definition with their original coloring. Among other things, they will be able to digitize design lines and annotations on an object, or follow the evolution of a surface's coloration with precision.
The device also features three cameras rather than just one on the previous model to capture ever finer details with improved resolution, a system that exploits the texture of scanned objects to improve its ability to position itself in space, and the revised and improved Peel 2.0 software.
Peel 3d is a company created by Creaform, part of the Ametek group.
