Creaform, a specialist in portable 3D measurement solutions and non-destructive testing solutions (NDT), announces that its HandySCAN 3D 3D portable 3D metrological class scanner can record the physical attributes of sinkings and assemblies for all Boeing commercial aircraft models.
Boeing has issued a service letter including a guide to using 3D scanners to measure indentations and joints on airplanes. The SmartDENT 3D solution and the HandySCAN 3D scanner were used for the Boeing quality requirements process in the service letter.
“Creaform is proud to see leaders such as Boeing turning to 3D scanning solutions for surface flaw inspection. With SmartDENT 3D, our goal is to provide the most accurate damage assessment process possible to our customers, so that they can make safe and documented decisions, while returning their aircraft to service ” , says Jérôme Beaumont, Head of global NDT sales at Creaform.
SmartDENT 3D is 80 times faster than the depth gauge technique. It is the fastest and most reliable aircraft surface damage inspection tool available on the market according to Creaform. The scanner features an accuracy of up to 0.025mm, a resolution of up to 0.100mm, high repeatability and a traceable certificate.
With its intuitive design and real-time software visualization, Creaform's NDT solutions ensure short learning curves and minimal influence of the operator's experience on the accuracy of results.
According to the company, with less than a kilo on the scale, the portable scanner is the perfect tool for working in sheds or directly outdoors. Users can easily perform a 3D surface inspection on any part of an aircraft where they would use manual techniques, including on and under the wings.
In addition to their compliance with Boeing's service letter, Creaform's HandySCAN 3D scanners are cited in the Airbus Technical Equipment Manual, more specifically in their Structural Repair Manual.
