Rockwell Automation's new FactoryTalk Analytics LogixAI module uses artificial intelligence (AI) to detect production anomalies and alert operators to the causes and respond more quickly and efficiently.
Many existing analytics technologies require in-depth expertise in both data science and industrial processes. This ControlLogix controller extension module reduces this load by doing the work of the Data Scientist.
It installs directly into the controller chassis and transmits controller data via the backplane to build predictive models. It can continuously monitor production operations and, after a learning phase, detect anomalies.
"The FactoryTalk Analytics LogixAI module makes predictive analytics more accessible so more operators can make better production decisions," says Jonathan Wise, Product Manager at Rockwell Automation. The module learns how the ControlLogix application works and alerts operators and technicians to unexpected changes. This allows them to anticipate product quality issues and protect the integrity of processes. »
For example, the module can help operators identify performance gaps in machines, such as blenders, that may affect product quality or cause production shutdowns. It can also act as a virtual sensor. The module prevents teams from having to perform surveys, such as the humidity of a packaged food product, by analyzing variables from line equipment, such as sprayers, dehydrators and burners, to predict a measurement, virtually.
Teams can receive notifications if there is a problem by setting alarms on a human-machine interface (IHM) or dashboard. The module's future functions will go even further by helping operators solve problems or automate process optimization.
The FactoryTalk Analytics LogixAI module is the latest addition to Rockwell Automation's FactoryTalk Analytics range. This range includes FactoryTalk Analytics for Devices, which analyzes the structure of an automation system to report problems affecting certain equipment. The LogixAI module takes another step: it learns how to apply an automation system and makes it easier to identify anomalies throughout the application.
