Renishaw Compensate is a new addition to the Carto software suite. It allows users of the XM-60 multi-axis gauge to apply volumetric compensation for machine tools in a quick and easy process.
Reduced scrap and machine downtime
Even when machine tools are new, there are positioning errors in several degrees of freedom. These vary throughout the working envelope. During normal operation, the performance of the machine continues to degrade due to mechanical wear. This often results in difficulties in achieving desired tolerances, leading to increased component scrap. When volumetric compensation is applied, the machine tool controller automatically applies a correction to reduce these errors. This process can be accomplished quickly by capturing the calibration data with the XM-60 system and using Compensate to generate a volumetric compensation table.
A solution for volumetric compensation
The XM-60 system allows the direct measurement of all six degrees of freedom (roll and yaw, pitch, linear, vertical and horizontal straightness errors) on one axis of the machine tool. All six degrees of freedom are measured at the same time. The automatic sign detection for the error directions avoids errors in the data processing. The measurement is independent of gravity and can therefore be used to measure X, Y or Z axes and even diagonal movements. According to Renishaw, "All these factors make the XM-60 the perfect solution for volumetric compensation."
Compensate is compatible with Siemens 840D Solution line PLCs that have the Siemens VCS (A3, A5 or A5 plus) option installed. Other PLC options will be available in future releases.
