Primary and secondary packaging of confectionery and bakery products can be difficult. The new DRT 25C dynamic reference sensor from Leuze offers reference technology and three light spots.

The sensors must continuously and reliably detect a wide range of products and films on the conveyors of primary and secondary packaging machines for confectionery and bakery products (horizontal or vertical forming, filling and sealing machines, Thermo Form , etc.). The packaging machines continue to operate without interruption, even if the product or the packaging material changes.

It is precisely for this field of application that Leuze has developed this reference dynamic diffusion sensor DRT 25C with its detection method. The sensor works with three light points and uses benchmark technology. The latter uses the conveyor belt as a benchmark and this is what makes this technology so unique. First, the surface characteristics of the conveyor belt are determined by the sensor. This then makes it possible to detect any “deviations” present on the conveyor, even if the conveyor belt is dirty or vibrating.

In this approach, the surface properties of the products, such as color, gloss or transparency, do not affect detection. The DRT 25C uses its three light spots to reliably detect the entire spectrum, small, flat or even tall and spherical products. Even irregular shapes and contours or products with openings are detected.

Higher flow

Reliable object detection, even those with difficult shapes and surfaces, ensures high throughput of machines and prevents system downtime. Even under difficult conditions such as vibrations or contamination of the conveyor belt. No sensor realignment is necessary when changing product or packaging material. This considerably reduces the preparation time required and allows for increased product volumes. According to Leuze, the DRT 25C is quick and easy to install thanks to the automatic learning button. It features a universal mounting position for all objects. Additional functions can be easily integrated into the machine control via IO-Link: for example, a warning message in the event of excessive contamination, the use of the counter integrated in the sensor or the locking of the teach button .
