Keyence's VR Series 3D profilometer measures shape, contours and roughness in just seconds. According to Keyence, “this wide-field 3D measurement system drastically changes the conventional working techniques of the quality and metrology departments. The acquisition of surfaces becomes simpler, more reliable and faster, and above all, the analysis of the results is greatly facilitated thanks to the panel of tools that are both powerful and intuitive. Just place the part on the stage and the surface is scanned and measured in just 1 second. "
In general, the surface analysis carried out by means of contact measuring machines (CMMs, contourographs, roughness gauges, etc.) proves to be time-consuming and partial due to the limited number of probed points.
Built around an innovative optical technology, the VR-5000's approach consists in scanning, without contact, the entire surface to be analyzed, thus allowing it to be modeled in 3D with very high resolution. No preparation of the part is necessary, just put it down and start the measurement. In addition to the productivity gain, the VR-5000 offers reproducibility of measurement conditions. Finally, since the measurement is contactless, parts with protruding shapes or made of flexible materials (rubber, silicone, elastomer, etc.) or even with a fragile surface are not an obstacle for the VR-5000.
Innovations
The main novelty lies in the lighting system which projects a multitude of deformed fringes under the effect of the topography of the surface to be analyzed. These deformations are then analyzed by triangulation in order to determine the altitude of each point on the surface.
In addition, the VR-5000 is equipped with a telecentric lens, a technology long mastered by Keyence. The latter offers a great depth of field while avoiding parallax effects. It is therefore no longer necessary to worry about focusing, even when the part to be analyzed has significant height differences. Finally, the absence of aberrations and distortion guarantees a faithful reproduction of the dimensions of the part for increased measurement accuracy.
Handling within everyone's reach
The VR-5000 automatically adapts to the orientation and tilt of the object. Just place the target on the stage and click a button to start the measurement process.
It automatically detects the width and height of the target, in order to automatically set the optimum measuring range.
In addition, the VR-5000 automatically detects a reference plane, the axis of a cylinder, the intersection between two planes or even the center of a sphere in order to position the image of the part in space. . The initial alignment of the part, a long, tedious process, and a source of errors, thus becomes completely superfluous.
The VR-5000 includes a set of automatic functions for part analysis. In addition to profile measurement, it also allows analysis of line and surface roughness.
The tool panel also includes functions for 2D measurement, flatness or co-planarity defects, volumes and areas.
Finally, the comparison function makes it possible to quickly detect the differences between a reference part (compliant) or a 3D CAD model and a faulty part. The investigation can then be focused around the suspect areas.
As with the entire Keyence metrology range, we also find statistical tools for controlling production (Cp, CpK, trend curves and histograms), as well as the production of automatic or customizable measurement reports.
Easy calibration
The VR-5000 comes with a set of standards linked to the international traceability system. The user can thus proceed independently to the calibration and recalibration of his machine in accordance with the requirements of ISO-17025.
The extremely simple and guided procedure allows you to perform the operation on your own in a few minutes. In addition to the time saved, this represents a substantial saving on the annual costs linked to the usual maintenance contracts.
The VR Series is suitable for quality control in metallurgy (machined or stamped parts including particular parts such as screws, cutting tools, drills), plastic and elastomer parts, but also electrical and electronic components, prostheses medical, and agrifood packaging.
