Test and analysis specialist Cetest helps the rail industry control noise and vibration with HBK solutions.
In response to the concerns of users and local residents about the impact of rail noise, Cetest has extended its system for assessing the external and internal noise levels of trains.
Noise affects quality of life and is a major concern for the railway sector as well as other industries. To provide its customers with reliable and versatile testing and evaluation services, Cetest turned to the world's leading test and measurement expert - Hottinger Brüel & Kjær (HBK) - to find the best solution.
HBK offered Cetest a complete system, comprising omnidirectional microphones, LAN-Xi multi-channel data acquisition modules, sound level meters, acoustic calibrators and recording systems based on Pulse LabShop and BK Connect. This comprehensive solution enables Cetest engineers to validate acoustic performance both indoors and outdoors in a variety of conditions, post-process the data and obtain accurate results.
This equipment, combined with a sound source and Dirac room acoustics software, is also used for speech intelligibility measurements of public address systems and passenger conversations, in accordance with IEC 60268-16. To determine the acoustic power of train components (such as gearboxes or traction units), acoustic intensity and pressure measurement methods are used, with correction of the sound field by calculating the reverberation time. Cetest also carries out sound insulation measurements on doors and walls.
An independent company founded in 2007, Cetest provides testing services mainly to the rail industry. The company has contributed to certification processes for new and refurbished rail vehicles, components and systems. After obtaining EN 9100 accreditation, it also developed its activities in the fields of aviation and wind energy.
