Making the right decisions implies having the right input data and therefore having confidence in the measurement data. It is the role of metrology to provide a methodology that ensures this confidence.
Thus metrology has become central in medical biology laboratories and analysis laboratories. The standards applicable to these fields attest to this: ISO 15189: 2012 and the latest version of the ISO / IEC 17025: 2017 standard.
The diagnosis is based on the examination result, which itself depends on the measurement data and finally on the measured quantity which must be valid metrologically. There are several conditions for this: mastering traceability, metrological confirmation, estimation of uncertainties and the application of methods adapted to the management of your fleet of instruments. At the same time, it is essential to master the good practices of using the usual measuring instruments such as pipettes, balances, pH meters, thermostatic enclosures, thermal cyclers, centrifuges.
The French College of Metrology (CFM) offers a new technical guide which synthesizes the previous guides on the subject (Metrology guide for use in medical biology laboratories and Implementation of metrology in medical biology laboratories, both published by Afnor Éditions), by integrating updates to give the most complete possible vision and by expanding to analysis laboratories with in particular the subject of pH-metry.
“This work was carried out in collaboration and under the technical support of Benoît Boudier from LDAR02 and several experts in the various measurement fields contributed to this document. We would like to thank the following people here for their involvement in the production of this document: Benoît Savanier (Cetiat), Christophe Delzongle (Sartorius), Tarik Kenzari and Martin Pereyron (Manumesure), Christopher Geneville (Biorad), Stéphane Hubert (Hettich Lab ), Eric Lalaurie (Becton Dickinson), Benoît Boudier (LDAR02) and Stéphane Laudrel (Métrique Consulting) as well as Raphaël Paulin and Marc Priel ” , one indicates within the CFM.
This new technical guide is available in the collection of Technical Guides of the French College of Metrology published with Afnor Éditions. It is on sale in paper and web format for a price of 95 euros including VAT (including 5.5% VAT; reduction for pdf format).
In addition to this technical G-guide, the CFM is organizing a Technical Day on November 19 on the theme “Metrology of laboratory instruments. »During this technical day, specialists in each measuring instrument (pipettes, balances, pH-meters, thermal cyclers, spectrometers, etc.) will come to testify about their experiences and recall good practices concerning the use of these instruments. This day is aimed at laboratory personnel who manage measuring instruments, whether in the field of medical biology, analysis, chemistry, or the food industry.
