Project partners break ground on new European logistics platform in Germany
Endress+Hauser strengthens its logistics capabilities in Europe. Business partner Hellmann Worldwide Logistics will operate a modern, high-performance logistics center for the Group in Wörrstadt, near Frankfurt airport in Germany. The platform is scheduled to be completed and in operation by mid-2021. The new location will replace the existing logistics center in Nieder-Olm, Germany.
A reliable logistics system is an essential link in the chain, enabling us to meet orders without difficulty and ensure a high level of customer satisfaction. Short production lead times, rapid response and on-time delivery are just some of the demands placed on modern product distribution centers. During the coronavirus pandemic, another aspect proved particularly important: flexibility.
"Our logistics platform in Nieder-Olm provided a solid foundation for reliable delivery of measurement and automation technology to customers worldwide, despite the pandemic.says Oliver Blum, Supply Chain Administrator. "Although 100 % availability was crucial, the flexibility needed to prevent the delivery of thousands of instruments to customers stranded by containment was particularly important.."
Extended cooperation
This positive experience has further confirmed the success of our cooperation with Hellmann Worldwide Logistics, which was recently renewed with a new contract. The partners are also planning to commission a larger logistics center in Wörrstadt, just a few kilometers from the current location. The new platform will feature over 18,000 m² of logistics space, and will be able to handle eight times the volume of the old site.
"With Hellmann, we're happy to have a partner who's on our side to manage our future growth flexibly and reliably.says Oliver Blum. Volker Sauerborn, Director of Contract Logistics Operations at Hellmann Worldwide Logistics, comments: "We are delighted to be able to extend our excellent cooperation with Endress+Hauser to a new level in new premises. The Wörrstadt site will facilitate the strategic growth of both partners.."
A platform for goods distribution
Currently, the Nieder-Olm center, which is certified for airfreight safety, handles daily deliveries from 16 shuttle trucks from all Endress+Hauser's European production sites. At the logistics center, the various products are grouped into a single order and dispatched to national and international end customers.
Hellmann also manages the replenishment of Endress+Hauser product centers outside Europe, including the packaging and preparation of orders for shipment by air freight and container ship loading. The new logistics platform in Wörrstadt will also consolidate incoming orders from abroad and distribute them to European production sites via existing shuttle connections.
The space at the new site will also be used primarily for transshipment logistics, which involves products that are normally shipped directly from the manufacturer to the customer instead of being warehoused. "We also use this concept in our other Endress+Hauser logistics centers around the world: in France, India, Italy and the USA. And we are constantly strengthening our global network. We are currently building regional platforms in China and India.adds Oliver Blum.
Groundbreaking ceremony
Construction work is already well underway in Wörrstadt. The partners officially launched construction of the new logistics center with a groundbreaking ceremony. The project developer is Panattoni, a subsidiary of one of the world's largest real estate companies specializing in logistics and industrial real estate. LIST Bau Bielefeld is the general contractor.
