A camera to assist the man on the assembly line

The Ricoh SC-10 camera inspection system is designed to provide assembly instructions to operators and verify that each step has been performed correctly. Already making a major impact on many manufacturing lines in Japan, this simple, self-contained camera system is now available in Europe, exclusively from Stemmer imaging.
A set of assembly instructions is first stored in the system and then displayed on a screen while the camera scans the part. The assembly operator follows the instructions on the screen. After each action, the system compares the result with the correct image in its memory before allowing the next action to proceed. This procedure reduces errors, helps operators learn new tasks, and provides a digital history of all operations.

The Ricoh SC-10 camera automatically checks the status of the assembly and immediately identifies incorrect or missing parts using pattern, color and texture comparison tools. When used in conjunction with a barcode scanner, it can record the part's serial number and user ID number and select the appropriate work instructions. Each completed step is recorded in a CSV file, along with an indication of the time spent performing the task and, optionally, an image of the inspection. The camera can thus also be used for analysis and traceability of assembly tasks.

The camera is equipped with internal software, configurable with a mouse and keyboard to be connected directly via USB. The display of the mounting instructions and the inspection status is done on a screen directly connected to the camera via HDMI. The use of a PC is therefore not necessary. The configuration and working instructions as well as the inspection history can be stored on the integrated SD card or on another network storage location via the integrated Ethernet port.

The camera has the following functions:

  • Verification of the correct number of parts needed for the assembly.
  • Checking the layout of the rooms.
  • Checking that the work is progressing correctly according to the instructions on the screen.
  • Detection of missing parts.
  • Verification of the accuracy of the assembled product and detection of errors.
  • Visual control to eliminate human errors and save on manual error correction costs.
  • Check that the packaging is correct according to the instructions.

The Ricoh SC-10 system is available in high magnification and standard versions. The addition of a high magnification lens allows you to inspect smaller parts, such as on printed circuit boards, or to inspect with a wider field of view.
