Optical measurement: small details and large field of view

For more than ten years, ViciVision has specialized in the production of optical measuring machines for turned or cylindrical parts from multiple sectors.

Using non-contact metrology solutions reduces inspection times, while increasing productivity and throughput.

A ViciVision optical machine measures the exterior profile of cylindrical parts statically and dynamically in seconds: from simple diameters, lengths and threads, to more complex form defects.

This know-how has aroused strong international interest from manufacturers of dental implants and micromechanics. ViciVision has therefore developed a line of specific products to meet growing demand.

High-resolution images combined with improved ergonomics for small parts help meet the needs of dental implant and micromechanical manufacturers.

With this rapidly changing environment and changing global markets, it can be difficult for manufacturers to choose the machine and technology that provides the capacity and flexibility to get through the years to come.

Limiting yourself to small parts can be "short-term." "

A machine with a wide measuring range remains, according to ViciVision, the best choice, as long as you do not compromise on resolution, precision and the ability to detect the smallest details.

In a world where all-in-one solutions are ideal, the company debuts the X-360, a machine capable of capturing the smallest details while offering a large field of view.

The resolution of dental implant measuring machines is now available with a larger envelope (300 x 60 mm), typical of small precision parts produced on bar turning machines and multi-spindle lathes.

For small and large rooms

“This results in a unique solution on the market, which provides dental implant manufacturers with a unique instrument capable of measuring both small and large parts, such as those used in spine surgery or orthopedic surgery , ” says- do we within society.

Micromechanics manufacturers can also take advantage of a resolution allowing very small radii, bevels, grooves and threads to be measured, while also having the possibility of measuring larger dimensions (300 x 60 mm).

The resolution combined with the large field of view completes ViciVision's exclusive “full image” function. The “full image” function captures the full profile of the part loaded into the machine, at maximum resolution, displaying and recording all measurements.

The measurements are recorded as well as the entire profile of the part.

This function allows the user to save the image of the part for later inspection. If more information is needed, measurements can be made using the part profile, without having to re-measure the part itself.

The ergonomics of the product have been designed to facilitate the measurement of small parts. The machine offers unobstructed and well-lit front access to facilitate loading and unloading operations, even for the smallest parts. Particular attention has been paid to reducing preventive maintenance. Optic housings are made of stainless steel rather than aluminum to prevent contamination and facilitate cleaning.

The low friction bearings of the upper tailstock reduce rotational slip between the tailstock and the workpiece under loose clamping. In all high-precision industries, tightening must be delicate so as not to distort the measured parts.

Instead of mounting workpieces between centers, the machine can be equipped with a variety of fasteners for workpieces without centering holes.

Automated control possible

The automated control option includes I / O communication and pneumatic clamping systems (on chuck and tailstock).

Thanks to its long history in the field of industrial automation, ViciVision is able to meet the needs of robotic integration and interface with MES and SPC software.

For the most advanced integrations, the VVLinx communication software allows closed loop control of machining centers. The collected data is processed and returned to the lathe (in the form of tool offsets) to keep production within tolerances and to facilitate tool changes.

With no international trade shows or events being held this year, the product launch will be through webinars and live demonstrations.

“From large automakers looking for automation to high-precision medical device makers producing small series, the X-360, with its high-resolution imaging and large field of view, is the perfect solution for all sectors of activity, ” says one within the company.
