Polarized sensor makes details undetectable with other image sensors visible. German industrial camera manufacturer IDS Imaging Development Systems now offers the Sony IMX250MZR 5 MP sensor with integrated "on-pixel" polarizer in its uEye CP camera range. The models offer improved object detection in low-contrast or reflective light. They come in handy for spotting small scratches on surfaces or detecting stress distribution within transparent objects.
And this with both USB3 Vision and GigE Vision interfaces. Thanks to its polarizing filter, the sensor generates an image in four polarization directions in a single shot. The directional polarization and degree of polarization of the light source are established on the basis of the intensity of each polarization direction. This makes it a versatile tool used, for example, to check whether residues remain on surfaces prior to subsequent treatment, or for traffic monitoring.
Equipped with a patented housing, uEye CP industrial cameras are compact. "Their small dimensions, 29 x 29 x 29 millimeters, make them ideal for applications where space is at a premium, says IDS. In addition, screw-in cables guarantee a reliable electrical connection.
