Selon la loi de Faraday de l&rsquo;induction magn\u00e9tique, une tension est g\u00e9n\u00e9r\u00e9e par le mouvement d&rsquo;un corps conducteur au travers d&rsquo;un champ magn\u00e9tique. Le fluide conducteur correspond \u00e0 ce corps, et la tension induite est proportionnelle \u00e0 la vitesse d&rsquo;\u00e9coulement, donc au d\u00e9bit volum\u00e9trique. Le liquide \u00e0 mesurer doit avoir une conductivit\u00e9 minimum. La tension induite est mesur\u00e9e au travers de 2 \u00e9lectrodes en contact avec le liquide et trait\u00e9e par l&rsquo;\u00e9lectronique.<br \/><br \/>Le d\u00e9bit est calcul\u00e9 sur la base de la section de passage du d\u00e9bitm\u00e8tre.<br \/><br \/>La mesure ne d\u00e9pend pas de la nature du liquide, ni de ses propri\u00e9t\u00e9s telles que densit\u00e9, viscosit\u00e9 ou temp\u00e9rature.<br \/><br \/>Deux signaux de sorties peuvent \u00eatre param\u00e9tr\u00e9s en contact, fr\u00e9quence ou courant.
