Fluke's new all-in-one test solution

Fluke's SMFT-1000 multi-function PV tester and performance analyzer for photovoltaic systems is easy to use and provides safety testing in accordance with IEC/EN 62446-1, while also providing performance analysis and I-V curve plotting, streamlining workflows.

Fluke, the global technology leader in compact professional electronic test and measurement tools and software, today launched its new SMFT-1000, a multifunction photovoltaic (PV) tester, performance analyzer, and I-V curve tracer in one. The all-in-one SMFT-1000 is an ideal solution for solar energy professionals who want to be more efficient when testing the safety and performance of photovoltaic systems up to 1,000 V DC.

PV maintenance technicians can now carry out all measurements on the DC side of large-scale residential, commercial, industrial and farm-type photovoltaic installations with a single device, combining accuracy, safety and reliability. Because the device streamlines and simplifies workflows on PV installations, this new portable tester saves 20 % in field time, and around 50 % in documentation time.

The I-V curve is one of the most common methods of determining the correct operation of photovoltaic modules and strings in different areas of the plant. The SMFT-1000 is highly versatile, allowing I-V curve data to be compared instantly in the field with measured data, displaying Pass/Fail visuals in real time on the device's high-definition color screen, for easy detection without the need for a laptop or tablet. This tester can also be used for open, short-circuit and operating current measurements, insulation tests, polarity checks, as well as diode and ground tests. In addition, AC/DC power measurements to improve efficiency can be carried out on the inverter.

A multifunction tester for PV systems

The market has been crying out for a versatile and accurate multi-function tester. Fluke's SMFT-1000, part multifunction PV tester, part performance analyzer and part I-V curve plotter, is a rigorously tested, high-performance all-in-one tool, packed with safety features and advanced functionality. Armed with a suite of unique self-diagnostic functions, solar energy professionals can now safely and accurately test the quality of photovoltaic systems, while streamlining workflows faster than ever before. "

Tested in accordance with IEC/EN 62446-1

Thanks to the patented Keep the Leads (« Laissez les cordons branchés ») from Fluke, solar professionals only need to connect once to the photovoltaic installation to carry out all tests, saving time thanks to automatic, easy-to-use test sequences displayed in real time. Functions include IEC/EN 62446-1 tests for categories 1 and 2, as well as insulation tests for methods A and B. Clearly labeled controls indicate ground resistance, polarity, voltage and current, AC/DC power and function, insulation resistance, I-V curve and diode tests. Once all measurements have been recorded in the field, the data can be saved and downloaded to a computer using the software TruTest, qui simplifie la gestion, le reporting et l’analyse des données.

Easy integration for advanced testing

For optimum results, the SMFT-1000 multifunction PV tester can be complemented by Fluke's i100 AC/DC clamp meter, and the IRR2-BT irradiometer with high-contrast LCD display. The clamp ammeter enables technicians to analyze inverter power, while the irradiometer provides irradiance and temperature measurements. The irradiance meter communicates wirelessly with the SMFT-1000 via Bluetooth to provide an accurate I-V index. If the wireless connection is interrupted for any reason, the IRR2-BT continues to record data for up to 17 hours. This data can then be compared with tests carried out with the SMFT-1000. The new SMFT-1000, a multi-function PV tester, performance analyzer and I-V curve plotter, is now available from Fluke's network of international and regional distributors.
