SpectraSensors and Kaiser Optical Systems subsidiaries merge to form Endress+Hauser Optical Analysis

As of January 1, 2022, Endress+Hauser subsidiaries SpectraSensors, Inc. and Kaiser Optical Systems, Inc. have joined forces to form a new company: Endress+Hauser Optical Analysis, Inc.

By consolidating its expertise in laser-based measurement technology, the Group is strengthening its focus on laboratory and process analysis, and positioning itself to provide its customers with additional support for advanced analysis.

For many years, Endress+Hauser has placed strategic emphasis on process and laboratory analysis. The company supports its customers from product and process development through to production, bringing advanced analysis and quality measurement to process engineering applications. Success in its main markets confirms this approach, with the Group generating almost a quarter of its sales from analysis technologies.

Under one roof

To bring together the Group's expertise in laser measurement principles and create the basis for sustainable growth, SpectraSensors and Kaiser Optical Systems merged under the new name of Endress+Hauser Optical Analysis on January 1, 2022. Both companies boast a long history of innovation and offer market-leading product ranges in optical analysis.

With the acquisition of these two American companies in 2012 and 2013, Endress+Hauser brought innovative technologies. The Group has strengthened its position in gas analysis with SpectraSensors' tunable diode laser absorption spectroscopy (TDLAS) technology. Kaiser Optical Systems, world leader in Raman spectroscopy, contributes its expertise in the analysis of solids, liquids and gases for a wide range of applications, including vaccine production.

From laboratory to process

"We want to continue to develop and expand our portfolio for laboratory and process analysis. Together with Endress+Hauser's liquid analysis and the subsidiary Analytik Jena, Endress+Hauser's optical analysis is an important part of our Group's analysis strategy", says Dr. Manfred Jagiella, who is responsible for the analysis business within Endress+Hauser's management.

"Our customers expect measuring instruments that are easy to use, robust and tailored to their applications," explains Managing Director John Schnake, who heads up the new unit. With laser-based measurement technologies, Endress+Hauser offers an integrated product portfolio for analysis, supporting industrial customers from product and process development through to quality control and production.

Headquarters in Ann Arbor, Michigan

Endress+Hauser Optical Analysis is headquartered in Ann Arbor, Michigan, where Raman spectroscopy instruments are also developed and manufactured. TDLAS instruments continue to be produced in Rancho Cucamonga, California. The new company, with around 200 employees, will remain a wholly-owned subsidiary of the Endress+Hauser Group.

European competence and support center in France

In 2019, the Endress+Hauser Group inaugurated the new building dedicated to advanced analysis on the Saint-Priest Campus, near Lyon. Some twenty people work on the production of turnkey solutions based on Raman spectroscopy and TDLAS technologies for the European market. Technicians and engineers support manufacturers in their on-line analysis processes.
