Vaisala in the top 5 2022 of "Europe's Climate Leaders" ranking

Vaisala ranks among the top 5 companies in the Financial Times' European "Climate Leaders" ranking.

The Financial Times has compiled a list of "European Climate Leaders 2022". This ranking lists the European companies that are most active in the fight against global warming, and that have achieved the greatest reductions in their greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions between 2015 and 2020. Vaisala, a world leader in meteorological, environmental and industrial measurement, ranks 5th. In 2021, Vaisala ranked 14th.

At a time when the latest IPCC report highlights the urgent need to take action to combat global warming and reduce greenhouse gas emissions, the aim of the Financial Times is to salute the successes and achievements of companies in reducing their greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, and to encourage them to continue down this path.

" The fight against global warming is a major concern for Vaisala, and we're delighted to be included once again in the Financial Times' "Climate Leaders" ranking. Last year we came 14th, but this year we're honored to be named in 5th place. This recognition is the culmination of all our hard work and actions to reduce our carbon footprint, says Kai Öistämö, President and CEO of Vaisala. As the latest IPCC report underlines, the fight against global warming is an even more urgent global challenge than we initially thought. This emergency situation also calls for strong action on the part of the private sector, which must take up the baton and play a major role in the ecological transition.. "

With regard to the methodology of this ranking, the Financial Times focuses on the reduction of the company's greenhouse gas emissions linked to the manufacture of the product (Scope 1) and linked to the energy consumption required to manufacture the product (Scope 2) over a 5-year period. Scope 3 greenhouse gas emissions are not taken into account in this ranking.

" At Vaisala, we have been using 100 % of renewable energy to power all our facilities worldwide since 2020, which has enabled us to significantly reduce our carbon footprint. Now we want to focus our efforts on reducing Scope 3 greenhouse gas emissions, comments Marjo Hietapuro, Head of Sustainable Development at Vaisala.. We also want to reduce our environmental footprint. From now on, we will concentrate our efforts on reducing Scope 3 greenhouse gas emissions, which are not taken into account in this ranking. Our objectives are ambitious.

In March 2022, Vaisala committed to reducing its Scope 3 greenhouse gas emissions, in line with the Science-Based Targets (SBTi) initiative, and to reducing its indirect greenhouse gas emissions.

"Beyond reducing our greenhouse gas emissions, the fight against global warming is a major concern at Vaisala and an integral part of our strategy and offering. By reducing our environmental footprint, we hope to have a positive impact on that of our customers, helping them to achieve their objectives. We believe that companies must integrate these new challenges into their strategy today, and transform themselves accordingly to ensure their long-term survival.sums up Kai Öistämö.
