Fête de la science: discover metrology with LNE

Fête de la Science 2018 - Biology

For the first time in 10 years, and to mark the Fête de la science 2017, LNE is opening its doors to introduce young and old to the world of metrology. Several tours for the general public and schoolchildren will be organized at the Trappes site on Saturday October 7 and Friday October 13, while LNE headquarters in Paris will open its doors to all on Saturday October 14.

For three days, the LNE will be opening its doors to give the general public the chance to discover this little-known science that is so present in our everyday lives. In 2018, the definitions of the 7 basic units of the International System of Units (SI) (meter, kilogram, second, ampere, mole, candela and kelvin) will be revised to bring them into line with modern physics. This is an opportunity for LNE, the leading French metrology organization and a key player in this revision, to provide an update on these units and their applications over the course of the three-day event.

After a presentation on metrology, LNE's measurement and testing specialists will guide the general public into the heart of their laboratories, where they will showcase their profession and their various activities in the fields of research, measurement and testing. From advances in metrology research to industrial inspection and testing. Four visit itineraries, lasting at least an hour and a half and featuring demonstrations and workshops, have been organized.
