Framatome signs contract to refurbish instrumentation and control systems for EDF's 900 MWe reactors

EDF - Framatome

Framatome will be upgrading the instrumentation and control system for EDF's 900 MWe reactor fleet in France. Following on from the studies already launched and underway since 2015, the first on-site operations will start in 2019 during the fourth ten-yearly inspections of 900 MWe reactors.

The work is scheduled to be carried out on 32 reactors. They are part of the ongoing program to modernize France's nuclear reactors, with the aim of ensuring their continued operation beyond the age of 40. As prime contractor, Framatome will draw on its expertise and join forces with other French companies to supply part of the technology associated with this contract. This contract illustrates the complementarity of skills within the French nuclear industry.

Frédéric Lelièvre, Executive Vice President, Sales, Regional Platforms and Marketing Business Unit Framatome's control systems manager, said: " After the contract signed in 2011 for the modernization of instrumentation and control systems for 1,300 MWe reactors in France, we are delighted that EDF has once again placed its trust in us.. "

The control system is the "brain" of a nuclear power plant. The evolution of the control system improves safety, facilitates future maintainability and contributes to extending the operating life of power plants.
