CiEN, held from May 24 to 26, 2011 at Paris expo Porte de Versailles, attracted 276 exhibitors (including 48 RF&Hyper wireless exhibitors) and 3,577 visitors, including 51% newcomers.
The show included an electronic measurement section, which accounted for 16 % of exhibitors.
Attendance at the 2011 event was on a par with 2010 in terms of numbers, but, according to the organizers (GL-Events), higher in terms of quality, with contacts coming mainly from the Engineering-R&D, Purchasing, General Management and Training departments.
CiEN, which aims to be the benchmark trade show for the French electronics industry and is supported by the main trade associations, is having a hard time getting off the ground. However, the event is not being radically overhauled, and we already know that the next edition will take place in October 2012.
Without prejudging the lessons to be learned from this second edition, which should have benefited from the rather optimistic climate in the electronics world, the organizers and trade associations can say: "We tried everything". When they decided to create CIEN in 2009, electronics professionals wanted above all to emancipate themselves. Suppliers of electronic components and electronic production equipment felt that "their" Intertronic show was not sufficiently independent. As for electronic instrumentation suppliers, they weren't at all pleased that their beloved "Forum de l'Electronique" trade show had disappeared and been merged with Mesurexpo. What's more, no one liked exhibiting at Paris Nord Villepinte, and, to make matters worse, in the second half of the year. With the creation of Cien, which federated all these professions, and the change of date and venue, they thought they'd found the solution. The very average attendance meant that other strategies had to be considered. An initial decision was taken to move the show to October, probably at the same time as MesurexpoVision (the new name for Mesurexpo). History repeats itself...
