First of all, if our morning news yesterday seemed surprising or too good to be true, look closely at your calendar...
Today, serious with the presentation of the Innovation Trophies at the Forum Labo - Biotech.
This second edition of the Innovation Awards is a testament to the richness of the industrial fabric, the research efforts undertaken by the laboratories and the technological creativity shown by exhibitors. They value the excellence of these companies which, through their innovative vision revolutionize the laboratory industry, make it more competitive, productive and qualitative.
Of the 76 innovations in the running, 13 were nominated by the jury of professional journalists (including Contrôles Essais Mesures)and scientists from public and private laboratories.
Four companies have won an Innovation Trophy in the categories "Security," "Miniaturization," "Ergonomics" and "Productivity." Visitors to the show also awarded their "Favourite" among these nominated innovations. And for the first time, a "French Innovation Award" was awarded.
Laboratory safety / Eco design / Regulation
Regulations and safety standards are changing rapidly. This innovation takes this into account and allows laboratory users to work in the best possible safety conditions and in accordance with current regulations. One of the criteria for selecting the innovation concerned may also be its eco-design, which ranges from the materials used to the management of its end of life.
The winner is: Horiba Scientific for Vulcan
Vulcan is a unique and innovative digestion station that automates all stages of sample preparation (acid distribution, heating, agitation, volume, dilution, transfer), without any manipulation of the operators.
The nominees were Erlab DFS (for Halo) and Esco Micro PTE (for a microbiological security post).
Miniaturization
On the one hand, certain methods of analysis or control must incorporate the constraints of laboratory space or the need to carry out analyses outside the laboratory. On the other hand, because of the cost of some samples, it may be appropriate to be able to perform the same analysis with less reagent. Optimizing the size of the innovation will have to maintain the required performance.
The winner is: Smart Inst for SmartPart
The SmartPart is a miniature system for measuring the characteristics of a mixture in real time coupled with the impact of the agitation process. The measurement carried out at the heart of the fluid (liquid, grainy or pasty) is based on a totally innovative technology that is part of the field of connected objects (W.S.N).
The nominees were Metrohm (for Mira) and Xpert Automation (for Xpertdose)
Ergonomics / Design / Comfort
Today, user comfort is one of the major criteria for product development and their commercial argument. The design enters the laboratory to ensure optimization of use but also aesthetic pleasure of the senses. Finally, enhanced ergonomics often allows users to take control of the functionality of innovation more quickly.
The winner is Safas for UVMC TouchSnake
The UVMC TouchSnake is a touchscreen spectrophotometer that can be steered, integrated and easily replaceable. The concept is simple: an ingenious flexible arm features a large touch screen in front of the operator. Tracking measurements and input remain easy at all times, even an open hood, when the user uses proprietary open-air measurement technology, for example to inject. Consistent with the exclusive Safas concept of durable spectroscopy, the key unlockable screen is easily replaceable by the user at a lower cost, by any tablet 8 to 12' (autoadaptative) on Windows 8.
The nominees were KNF Neuberger (for arotary vaporizer RC900) and Thermo Fischer Scientific (for the E1-Cliptip multi-channel electronic pipette)
Productivity / Profitability
This category allows us to value the tools, services and good ideas that have increased productivity in the laboratory (optimization of processes, cost constraints and management difficulties, etc.).
The winner is Envolure for the Enverdi-DBO
Following the growing need for responsiveness and analytical profitability, Envolure has developed a high-C-throughput measurement technology that enables DBO5 measurements to be performed in just 48 hours for laboratories and industrial managers.
The nominees were Analytic Jena (for Plasmaquant MS) and Berthold (for Bscreen LB991)
The French Innovation Award was awarded to Celenys for Biomimesys, a hyaluronic acid medium that enables 3D cell culture in a physiological environment more representative of biological reality.
The nominees were SmartInst and Xpert Automation.
Visitors awarded their favourites to Erlab DFS for Halo.
