SKF has signed a contract with American Bridge Company for a specially designed hub solution for the Caesars Entertainment Corporation Ferris wheel in Las Vegas. The 168-meter-high wheel will be equipped with two SKF spherical roller bearings, the largest ever produced by the SKF plant in Gothenburg, Sweden. This solution, based on bearing technology, will also integrate technologies from SKF's other competence platforms: namely sealing solutions, lubrication systems and engineering consulting services.
The two custom-designed SKF spherical roller bearings (located on either side of the wheel) weigh around 8,800 kg, with an outside diameter of 2,300 mm, an inside diameter of 1,600 mm and a width of 630 mm. Each of the wheel's 28 cabins pivots independently and can accommodate up to 40 people. The wheel, named "High Roller", is the star attraction of "The LINQ", the future entertainment and leisure district near Caesars Palace and the Flamingo. The total cost of the project is 550 million US dollars.
" The Las Vegas High Roller is a true technological feat "explains David Codiga, Executive Director of The LINQ Project.
The Las Vegas High Roller is the latest major project in this field, calling on SKF's expertise for large bearings. The wheel at Chicago's Navy Pier® Ferris features two SKF spherical roller bearings, while the wheel at Liseberg Park in Gothenburg runs on SKF Explorer bearings. SKF bearings can also be found in the London Eye.
