The strategy presented by IMT Lille Douai's new Director of Research, Jean-Christophe Baudez, through a program entitled "Lille Douai 2030", should clearly highlight the scientific identity of the school - created in January 2017 from the merger of Mines Douai and Telecom Lille - based on the expertise and areas of excellence of the school and its various departments. The new organization will enable the emergence of multidisciplinary partnership research projects and the strengthening of partnerships with regional academic and industrial players, notably within the framework of the ULNE I-Site.
IMT Lille Douai was created to help companies make the transition to digital technology, a source of technological development. To this end, the school is involved in numerous research projects in partnership with regional and national economic and academic players, with the aim of supporting innovation. The "Lille Douai 2030" strategy aims to boost IMT Lille Douai's visibility and research performance. The new organization also aims to develop a research identity based on IMT Lille Douai's expertise and areas of excellence, within the framework of the national strategic plan of the Institut Mines Telecom, to which the school belongs.
Coordinating and optimizing the work of IMT Lille Douai's research departments
Research at IMT Lille Douai will be organized into 4 research and innovation teaching centers, coordinated by the Research and Innovation Department and linked to the school's major areas of expertise: digital systems in industry, communication systems, energy and environment, materials and processes. The new governance structure will see the creation of an internal scientific council, representative of the CERIs, whose mission will be to steer the school's research strategy. The pooling and professionalization of support functions will also enable us to provide better support for teaching and research staff in their research and innovation missions, by providing assistance in setting up projects, particularly with regard to administrative and financial aspects, scientific and partnership monitoring, and intellectual property protection.
Strengthen the school's leadership in its core themes
The "Lille Douai 2030" strategy calls for IMT Lille Douai's research strengths to be structured around a number of key areas in order to assert national leadership in line with IMT's strategic plan. Digital Manufacturing. Also with a view to enhancing IMT Lille Douai's visibility and image, the Research and Innovation department is looking to set up tools enabling scientists to target Horizon 2020 ERC grants and ANR Young Researcher calls for projects. To this end, competitive calls for projects will be organized internally to identify research topics and scientists with the potential to win ANR ERC and Jeunes Chercheurs grants in a few years' time.
Develop partnerships and extend IMT Lille Douai's influence
The "Lille Douai 2030" strategy is an ambitious one. To achieve this, the school aims to strengthen its research partnerships, by perpetuating its industrial partnerships through industrial chairs and joint laboratories. In order to broaden its scientific offering, IMT Lille Douai is also looking to join forces with other regional research teams (CNRS, universities, institutes, etc.). More generally, the aim is to no longer have "isolated" research teams by 2030. In addition, IMT Lille Douai intends to encourage exchanges of researchers, both with French and foreign academic partners, and with industry, by setting up a program to welcome visiting researchers.
