Guaranteeing the integrity of vaccines and the tracing of each single dose through visual inspection and bottle serialization processes: this is the commitment of the Italian multinational Antares Vision, established in France in Lyon since 2016, which guarantees safety and transparency throughout the vaccine distribution chain through these processes.
Eliminate the risk of human error and ensure traceability at the... worldwide
Antares Vision's visual inspection and bottle serialization solutions now equip the production lines of several renowned pharmaceutical laboratories in France and abroad.
Antares Vision systems allow for example:
- Eliminate the risk of human error in quality control, by being able to inspect large quantities of vials, up to 400 pieces /min!
- To carry out traceability at global level which consists of the serialization and aggregation of products, which significantly reduces interruptions in the supply chain and guarantees its transparency, which is fundamental in this phase of the vaccination campaign.
Unit Serialization and Online Printing
Antares Vision's latest patented visual inspection solution is equipped with innovative technologies that allow for accurate visual inspection of freeze-dried liquids and products as well as a test of the integrity of container closures.
"We can carry out the unitary serialization, in integrated mode, of each dose including online printing and control of the datamatrix code with visible or UV-visible ink, to share information with the health authorities, and this at each stage of the supply chain!" says Nicolas Perrin, director of the subsidiary Antares Vision France.
Lyophilisates too!
The machine is also capable of performing a wide range of checks:
- Presence of particles inside the product;
- Inspection of foreign bodies;
- Fill level controls;
- Detection of surface and functional defects of the container;
- Applying and verifying the label.
Visual inspection is carried out using state-of-the-art vision systems. Each high-resolution camera is programmed with algorithms to recognize specific defects in both the container and the content. Equipped with proprietary image processing equipment, the inspection machine provides accurate statistical analyses that help identify the origin of the release.
Thanks to the application of these high technologies, freeze-dried products can also be inspected. "It is indeed expected that the use of freeze-dried products will soon be adopted in the production of Covid-19 vaccines," the company says.
Vaccine integrity and transparency of the distribution chain
"The pandemic has accelerated the use and experience of new technologies," says Emidio Zorzella, CEO of Antares Vision. It is very important that the safety of people is taken into account. Now more than ever, technology must help reduce the consequences of this health crisis. Our solutions contribute to vaccine integrity and distribution chain transparency. With this in mind, we are exploring with IBM and the Linux Foundation how information storage and transmission technology can be more secure throughout the vaccine supply chain. »
According to a World Economic Forum study conducted in 27 countries around the world, only 74% of people say they are ready to receive a Covid-19 vaccine, and 26% of them say they are "not safe". The U.S. research center Pew, meanwhile, found that 77% of U.S. citizens are concerned about the safety and effectiveness of vaccines.
