Cetim, a Carnot-labelled technological institute, has just acquired a vibrophore for fatigue testing of high loads at high frequencies. This equipment, unique in France, joins cetim's family of material characterization equipment and paves the way for more complete and complex services.
The brand new machine dedicated to fatigue tests, a vibrophore from the Swiss manufacturer Rumul, is capable of applying loads up to 550 kN under stress frequencies of 50 to 150Hz (thanks to a magnetic resonance system), it is also suitable for tests on high thickness specimens whose length can reach 850 mm!
Faster and more complex tests than before
The vibrophore has hydraulic bits that ensure faster installation of test specimens, and a state-of-the-art controller to which various sensors can be connected to collect and process additional data during operations. The package thus makes it possible to reduce test times and to conduct more complex tests than before, supplemented with calculation and interpretation of the results.
First application in offshore wind
This XXL vibrophore started its career with a series of tests on 300 welded specimens of high thickness (25 mm) for an international R&D project in offshore wind. It also opens up prospects for the characterization of materials of high thickness at scale 1 for other sectors: naval and para-oil, of course, but also for performance tests on small structures in the automotive, railway, handling and lifting equipment, aeronautics or energy.
A family of fatigue testing equipment
This 3rd vibrophore completes cetim's range of fatigue testing machines, whose range ranges from a few Newtons to 3000 kN, and which adds to the range of vibration environment tests, the laboratory also having seven vibrators, two of which target aeronautical applications for short-term tests and a third acquired in 2020 for long-term major shock and vibration tests for the transportation, the oil and gas industry and defence.
Cetim thus has an extensive testing offer that is unique in the territory for the reliability and qualification of products.
