SGS, a global specialist in testing, inspection and certification, is deploying its IoTs solution to meet the air quality challenges of professionals: on the one hand, SGS AirSense, which enables continuous monitoring of indoor environments; and on the other hand, SmartSense, an advanced customizable device for indoor and outdoor environments.
Odors, eye irritation, respiratory tract irritation, noise pollution, headaches, concentration problems... so many feelings and symptoms that often come from a bad air quality. Measurements and a continuous monitoring are then essential to ensure the health and the comfort of the teams and the customers, for the sites receiving the public as for the gas stations, the airports...
SGS AirSense allows continuous monitoring of up to 7 quality criteria in indoor environments (CO2The SmartSense is a more sophisticated device that can be customized (the sensors are assembled on demand according to the problem) and that also has an integrated sensor system that can be used to detect the presence of pollutants in the air. SmartSense is, for its part, a more sophisticated device, customizable (the detectors are assembled on demand according to the problem) and which has, moreover, an automated sampling system: At the slightest alert, an automatic sampling is carried out, allowing a remote sampling, in real time. The data analysis can thus lead to identify the source, the place and the time where the incident, generating a deterioration of the air quality, occurred. SGS SmartSense makes monitoring more efficient, and allows to measure air quality at the right time without wasting time on unnecessary measurements.
"It is to meet the increasingly demanding needs of companies that we imagined SGS AirSense directed towards indoor air quality, and SGS SmartSense for more "industrial" problems by adding a unique touch: automatic sampling and remote sampling, in real time! Indeed, the presence of the incriminated compounds in the air is often discontinuous. If the sampling does not occur at the right time, the measurements are meaningless.explains Audrey Piechocki, Senior Business Development Engineer, SGS France.
The SGS SmartSense device, more versatile than its "100 % indoor air" version SGS Airsense, is deployed to study air quality issues, in indoor and outdoor environments of professional sites and buildings. Configured according to the needs of the user company, it proposes to select up to 6 parameters (CO2VOCs, PM1/2.5/4/10/total, NH3, H2S, SO2.....) in addition to temperature, humidity and pressure. The customer can choose the duration of the installation, the pollutants to be measured and the number of devices to be deployed.
"As an example, one of our clients had abnormally high VOC levels at the end of each day. The in-depth study of the data combined with the field survey made it possible to define that the cause of these high concentrations was the use of cleaning products by the cleaners, which led to regular peaks of exceedances of this parameter. The client was therefore advised to study the composition of these cleaning products and to air the premises well after the passage of the cleaning team.says Audrey Piechocki.
The solution complements traditional and regulatory monitoring methods with continuous monitoring data, with a reading every minute; and most importantly, integrated, remote sampling after triggering the SmartSampler. The goal is to provide a local network of monitoring points for real-time air quality assessments. SGS experts study and interpret the data, providing informed guidance.
