Cotelec announces the exclusive marketing in France and North Africa of the new range of test tips and contact pins from the German manufacturer Feinmetall designed for E-Mobility applications.
Automotive electronics are becoming increasingly digital, modern assistance systems ensure safety and comfort, and reliability is a top priority.
Electric mobility with fast charging processes at high currents also poses completely new challenges for contact and test technology. Reliable contacts with minimal contact resistance and high current carrying capacity are required to test the relevant components and interfaces.
Intelligent contact solutions also allow the detection of mechanical details, the presence of protective devices or the monitoring of temperature profiles. The contact of round pins is therefore of great importance for e-mobility applications. In addition to electrical contact, a finger protection presence test is often of great importance for testing connectors.
To meet these challenges, Cotelec now offers exclusively in France and North Africa, the new series of E-Mobility test tips and HC10 contact pins developed by its German partner Feinmetall. This solution has been specially designed for suitable round pin contact and also allows finger protection caps to be checked and tested.
The special spindle design with a ring spring of the HC10 series offers the advantage of allowing reliable and damage-free contact for the object to be tested with high currents of up to 200 A, and is ideal for handling different tolerances with round pins.
The special feature of the HC10 E-Mobility test tip is that it is available in different variants (for all round pin diameters) with detection pin or with finger protection request:
• The version with coil springs of the piston head allows for safe and constant electrical contact with the round pins of the connector.
• In addition to this contact for current transfer, voltage measurement can be performed by an optional integrated spring blade (sense Contact).
• Another variant with short-circuit test between the bottom of the test tip and the tip of the connector pin verifies the presence of the connector pin protection cap. For this purpose, an additional electrically isolated contact element has been integrated into the probe that touches the object to be tested on the front side and detects accordingly whether the electrical conductivity is established or not.
A specific version with integrated air cooling for even higher currents.
In order to meet the challenge of contact with even higher currents, Feinmetall has also developed a special version of the HC10 series with integrated air cooling. The advantage of this version is to be able to significantly reduce the temperature increase caused by high currents.
From a practical point of view, the round pins and sockets are integrated into all new "e-mobility" charging connectors and worldwide. That's why Cotelec offers solutions for diameters and currents (Ø4.0 / Ø6.0 / Ø8.0 / Ø10.0 mm).
In the end, with these new solutions, Cotelec's partner has once again been able to develop modular and multifunctional contact systems that considerably facilitate the reliable testing of certain components in E-mobility. And only reliable test technology ultimately guarantees reliable vehicle technology.
