The new Cognex DataMan® 8000 series readers have the same functionality as the existing DataMan industrial handhelds, which have set the standard for industrial DPM code reading performance since their release.
The DataMan 8000 series introduces the following new features:

2. Innovative modular communication including Ethernet for real-time part traceability

1. Liquid lens with auto focus
The new DataMan 8000 Series is the first industrial handheld to offer integrated liquid lens technology.
The adjustable focal length of the liquid lens gives you maximum depth-of-field flexibility, allowing you to read very small 2D DPM codes at close range as well as longer 1D barcodes at a greater distance with extremely fast response times.
2. Ethernet communication
DataMan 8000 Series ID readers are also the first handheld readers to offer an Ethernet communication interface for easy integration into your factory network for real-time product and part tracking.
Switch from RS-232/USB to Industrial Ethernet with interchangeable interface modules to change your initial configuration to meet communication protocol changes.
3. High performance decoding
Finally, of course, the DataMan 8000 Series industrial handhelds feature the proven, patented IDMax technology and two powerful algorithms, 1DMaxTM and 2DMaxTM, to reliably decode virtually any type of code at unmatched read rates.
1DMax technology
For 1D barcodes, the 1DMaxTM algorithm is our high-performance reading technology capable of reading codes on any media, regardless of position, and handling extreme variations.
2DMax technology
For 2D codes, 2DMaxTM technology has helped kick-start the adoption of 2D Data Matrix codes in many industries for direct part marking (DPM) and high-speed printing applications.
