The English Formula 1 Caterham F1 Team has chosen the Faro Edge SanArm to optimize its internal quality control. Faro measuring arms will be used in two contexts. First of all, they will make it possible to verify the dimensions and the orientation in the tunnel of the models submitted for testing in the context of the wind tunnel tests. They then participate in the manufacture and associated quality control of models machined from epoxy resin. They are used as jigs to make molds from which the carbon fiber components of the team cars are produced and are used to verify the dimensional accuracy of these molds. Previously, the team's ability to perform quality control of dimensions was limited by the limitations of its internal coordinate measuring machines (CMMs) which could not be used with parts exceeding 1.2m in length and 1m in width. . It was therefore totally dependent on its partners to verify the accuracy of larger parts. Procedures that can last an hour with a CMM now require only half an hour thanks to the Faro measuring arms.
