Zeiss Industrial Metrology accelerates its entry into the 3D optics and scanning sector. To do this, it plans to acquire a majority stake in Steinbichler Optotechnik GmbH, a company headquartered in Neubeuern, near Rosenheim in South Germany.
Steinbichler is one of the world's leading suppliers of 3D scanning and surface inspection systems. Established more than 25 years ago and with more than 200 people, the company has a wide spectrum of expertise in photogrammetry and laser scanning. The company has developed a skill in interferometric inspection of tires. The products in its "intact" series guarantee non-destructive control by shearography and are used worldwide for automotive, F1 and aerospace.
The two companies have already worked together, particularly in the automotive sector. Subject to approval by the authorities, the transaction is expected to be completed by mid-summer. The company will remain headquartered in Neubeuern and Dr. Marcus Steinbichler will be its general manager.
