Zeiss métrologie industrielle is stepping up its entry into the optics and 3D digitizing sector. To this end, it plans to acquire a majority stake in Steinbichler Optotechnik GmbH, a company based in Neubeuern, near Rosenheim in southern Germany.
Steinbichler is one of the world's leading suppliers of 3D scanning and surface inspection systems. Established over 25 years ago and employing over 200 people, the company boasts a broad spectrum of skills in photogrammetry and laser scanning. The company has also developed expertise in interferometric tire inspection. Products in its "intact" series guarantee non-destructive shearography testing, and are used worldwide in the automotive, F1 and aerospace industries.
The two companies have already worked together, notably in the automotive sector. Subject to regulatory approval, the transaction is expected to be finalized by mid-summer. The company's headquarters will remain in Neubeuern, and Dr. Marcus Steinbichler will take over as Managing Director.
