"Create trust and validate performance, or how to define an enabling environment for AI development"
On November 24, 2021, the National Laboratory of Metrology and Testing (LNE) organizes at the Cité des sciences et de l'industrie, the 1st Forum for the Evaluation of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in the presence of Cédric Villani, Séputé de l'Essonne and President of the Parliamentary Office for Scientific and Technological Choices, Thomas Courbe, Director General of Companies, and Renaud Vedel, prefect and coordinator of the national strategy for artificial intelligence.
Cédric Villani's report on artificial intelligence and the national AI strategy, coordinated by Renaud Vedel, both point to the importance of developing new metrology and validation methods to promote the acceptability of AI.
Indeed, the use of artificial intelligence systems is accelerating and promises more efficient decision-making in the face of ever richer and more complex environments. The evaluation of AI is then necessary to guarantee its reliability and performance, but also to promote its acceptability by society.
The evaluation of AI is therefore essential both for the user (selection, reception, appreciation of functionalities) and for the designer (design and development, certification). And beyond the very effectiveness of the systems, it is necessary to address the issues of safety, ethics or quality of human-machine interaction, essential conditions for collective acceptability.
The first AI Evaluation Forum will thus make it possible to address economic, technological, normative and regulatory aspects thanks to the interventions of experts from the industrial and academic worlds as well as representatives of public authorities.
Through the sharing of experiences, accompanied by explanations on good practices in the evaluation and qualification of intelligent systems, several themes will be addressed throughout the day:
- the benefits of AI evaluation,
- existing evaluation platforms to be developed,
- how to develop a trusted AI and increase its acceptability,
- the latest advances in regulation, standardization and certification.
