"Creating trust and validating performance, or how to define a favorable environment for the development of AI".
On November 24, 2021, the Laboratoire national de métrologie et d'essais (LNE) is organizing the 1st Forum de l'évaluation de l'intelligence artificielle (AI) at the Cité des sciences et de l'industrie, in the presence of Cédric Villani, deputy of Essonne and president of the Office parlementaire des choix scientifiques et technologiques, Thomas Courbe, director general of enterprises, and Renaud Vedel, prefect and coordinator of the national strategy for artificial intelligence.
Cédric Villani's report on artificial intelligence and the national AI strategy coordinated by Renaud Vedel both point to the importance of developing new metrology and validation methods to promote the acceptability of AI.
Indeed, the use of artificial intelligence systems is accelerating, promising more effective decision-making in ever richer and more complex environments. AI must therefore be evaluated to guarantee its reliability and performance, as well as its acceptability to society.
AI evaluation is therefore essential both for the user (selection, reception, assessment of functionalities) and for the designer (design and development, certification). And beyond the effectiveness of the systems themselves, it is necessary to address questions of safety, ethics and the quality of human-machine interaction, which are essential conditions for collective acceptability.
The first AI Assessment Forum will address economic, technological, normative and regulatory aspects, with contributions from experts from industry and academia, as well as representatives of public authorities.
Through the sharing of experiences, accompanied by explanations of best practices for assessing and qualifying intelligent systems, several themes will be addressed throughout the day:
- the benefits of AI evaluation,
- existing and future assessment platforms,
- how to develop trusted AI and increase its acceptability,
- the latest advances in regulations, standardization and certification.
