The Emitech group, which includes testing laboratories dedicated to environmental tests applicable to any sector of activity, has announced that it will install three new Faraday cages in 2021, including two multi-activity cages. With 57 cages spread over 10 of its 16 sites in France, Emitech is strengthening its position as French leader: the group is capable of carrying out 180 test campaigns simultaneously. Each year, the group's 550 employees handle nearly 14,000 requests from more than 2,500 companies.
Julien Joly, Deputy Chief Operating Officer at Emitech explains: "These three new cages are a strategic response by the Emitech Group to the growing demands of our customers. It is essential for us to be able to meet them in full, with fluidity, quality and in compliance with the standards of conformity."
The first cage is a full anechoic type, dedicated to radio and IOT tests. It is installed in Vendargues, near Montpellier, to complement and reinforce existing test facilities.
State-of-the-art equipment
The two other cages located in the Rhône-Alpes (Chassieu) and Grand-Ouest (Rennes) regions are of a new type: they are high performance, high quality, multi-purpose semi-anechoic cages. They offer different configurations which allows a complete versatility of the means: an antenna mast and a turntable on the one hand, and a removable table with its ground plane, on the other hand.
For the configuration using the turntable and the mast allowing to vary the height of the antenna, it is intended for equipments in phase of approval (CE marking, marketing in the world...) allowing to realize measurements of radiated emissions and immunities.
For the configuration used to perform automotive, military and aeronautical qualification tests, the ground plane connected to the cage with the table covered is required by the applicable test methods in order to reproduce the metal environment of the concerned equipment.
A quick change of configuration between approval and qualification
The dimensions of these cages are designed to accommodate the largest test equipment: they are 8.5 m long x 5.5 m wide x 5.5 m high, i.e. a volume of 257 m3. Doors measuring 3m x 3m, in comparison, a standard door measures 2m x 2.10m are therefore ideal, for example, for computer racks that are usually 2.40m high.
The turntables are in adequacy with this will to be able to test large systems with a 1,5 diameter turntable supporting 1 ton for the first one and a 2m diameter turntable supporting 2 tons for the second.
The qualification tables offer a large surface to install equipment, such as an electric vehicle battery.
Emitech is pursuing this development strategy and is already announcing a new, even larger, semi-anechoic multi-purpose cage for 2023, with dimensions of 27m long x 18m wide and 11m high, equipped with a 4.8m x 4.8m door. It will be installed in the heart of a specific extension of a building of 1200 m2 at the head office in Montigny-le-Bretonneux and will be accompanied by a 59th cage of 8m x 7 m.
