IMScompact is the latest addition to Rexroth's range of rail-mounted ball bearing guideways with integrated measuring system, from size 15 upwards, extending the principle of integrated measurement to automation applications. IMScompact is positioned as "an extremely simple solution for designing compact, dynamic machines."
IMScompact determines the position of the guide via non-contact measurement, with absolute accuracy of ± 20 μm per meter and repeatability of ± 1 μm, at speeds of up to 5 m/s.
The steel guide body protects the integrated encoder from magnetic interference, acting as a Faraday cage, enabling the integrated measuring system to deliver accurate values even when used in conjunction with linear motors. IMScompact's non-contact, wear-free measuring principle and insensitivity to dust, shock and vibration make it a durable product. Its dimensions are the same as those of standard guides, with the cable outlet on the side of the guide. IMScompact can therefore be integrated into existing configurations. Complete integration into the guide eliminates the need for additional fixings, reducing system costs and simplifying machine design.
The measuring system is equipped with a 1Vpp or TTL incremental interface and an SSI absolute encoder interface. The system can easily measure lengths of up to 17.8 m. The use of standard components simplifies installation and commissioning. Linear guides with IMScompact can be configured online. The version with absolute measurement is always supplied with a connector, while the version with incremental measurement can be supplied without a connector. The cable can be integrated into a cable carrier chain, and its length is freely selectable. Bosch Rexroth offers an optional display for position measurement.
