Mitutoyo's new TAG Lens varifocal lens boasts ultra-fast focusing and unrivalled depth-of-field sharpness.
Mitutoyo's new TAG Lens - an acronym for "Tunable Acoustic Index Gradient" - offers a focal length variation frequency in excess of 70 kHz, where products on the market are below 1 kHz.
Thanks to Tag Lens, it is no longer necessary to make a mechanical movement to control focal length; piezoelectric signals trigger ultra-fast focus adaptation. What's more, Mitutoyo's TAG Lens offers a focal length 40 times greater than standard lenses.
Combined with a wide-focus telecentric lens, TAG Lens is a key component for ultra-fast visual inspection applications in the food or medical industries, for rapid QR code reading, or for defect and tolerance inspection in quality management systems. The use of the TAG Lens, combined with Mitutoyo's vision measurement machines, will considerably reduce cycle times for autofocus, image composition and height measurement.
This new optical product is intended to open the doors to many new markets for the Japanese manufacturer of measuring instruments, and could serve as a springboard for new partnerships with companies in sectors other than metrology.
The TAG Lens is now part of Mitutoyo's wide range of high-tech solutions. It is the result of collaboration between the Japanese manufacturer and TAG Optics (Princeton/New Jersey, USA), which has since been integrated into the Mitutoyo Group.
According to Mitutoyo, "The unique TAG Lens is one of the world's most innovative optical components.
