With the IM-7000 Series, Keyence's new image-based dimensional measurement system, anyone can easily perform high-precision dimensional measurements in a matter of seconds. Speed, precision and simplicity: the founding concepts of the Keyence IM Series remain unchanged. With the IM-7000, the essential new features are the dimensions of the parts measured, and the ability to take measurements on dark areas of the parts to be inspected.
Operation of the IM-7000 Series is extremely simple: the operator places the part to be measured on the unit's baseplate, beneath the camera, and presses a button.
Thanks to its large-diameter telecentric lenses, the IM-7000 series requires no adjustment of the position of the part to be measured, and no time-consuming focusing of the optical system.
The device immediately recognizes the position and orientation of the part to be inspected, on which up to 99 dimensions are automatically identified and measured, with a repeatability of less than +/-1 µm for measurements requiring movement of the stage, and even +/-0.5 µm if the stage remains stationary. What's more, up to 100 identical parts can be inspected simultaneously. Parts that are out of tolerance on a measurement dimension are visually identified (red) on the IM-7000 display.
With its enlarged stage (200 × 200 x 75 mm), the Keyence IM-7000 series offers a measurement volume 4 times greater than that of previous generations, enabling larger parts, or more of them, to be processed in a single operation. What's more, thanks to the turntable's high speed, it's possible to double the field of view, while operating three times faster than with a conventional system.
For precise edge extraction and optimum lighting conditions, particular attention has been paid to the light source. The multi-segment ring lighting unit integrates several lighting functions. These make it possible to inspect a wide variety of features without having to change the lighting device, thus ensuring maximum efficiency. The newly designed light probe enables measurements to be taken in areas previously too dark for analysis. The perfectly defined shape of the new light probe and its rounded corners guarantee simple, accurate measurement, even for highly varied targets that are difficult to process with conventional image-based measurement systems.
The contact light probe can be used to highlight edges that are difficult or impossible to detect under conventional episcopic lighting, such as faces or bores with radii or fillets (parts produced by molding, injection, forging, or hand-deburred milled parts), or surfaces with draft angles.
Data processing and communications
The Keyence IM-7000 system can automatically calculate and display key statistical indicators for each measured characteristic (compliant, non-compliant, maximum, minimum, average, sigma, 3-sigma, 6-sigma, Cp, Cpk and others). Batch data management is also made easy.
Built-in analysis functions (trend curves, histogram) make it easy to visualize trends such as "gradual decrease in measured values", "increase in variations" or "cyclical fluctuation in measured values". Measurement results from the Keyence IM series can be automatically transferred to an Excel spreadsheet on a specified PC.
It's easy to use a PC to add or modify programs originally created on the IM-6700, or from a CAD file (in DXF format). Even if a part is not physically available, it is still possible to quickly create a measurement program from its CAD file, thus saving time.
The main applications for the Keyence IM-7000 Series include inspection of prototypes and samples at the start of production, inspection by sampling on a production line, pre-shipment or incoming inspection of parts, etc. The inspected and inspected components may be mechanical or plastic parts (manufactured by turning and machining, cutting, plastic injection, sintering, forging, extrusion, etc.), electronic components, labels (printing, engraving, etc.), etc.
