Mitutoyo developed the first solar comparator. There is no equivalent product in the world to date.
There were a few battery-free instrumentation products like mitutoyo's sliding foot, but Mitutoyo has now developed the first solar comparator. It is the first solar comparator (operating without a battery) in the world.
Mitutoyo's solar-powered ID-S comparator requires only a 40 lux illumination intensity to operate.
It can be used in very dimly lit environments and even if the comparator has been turned off beforehand. Indeed, if the illumination intensity is below the 40 lux limit, the ID-S comparator has a built-in capacitor - up to 160 minutes, provided the capacitor has previously been allowed to fully charge at an illumination intensity exceeding 40 lux.
The Solar ID-S comparator only requires an ordinary work environment to be fully functional. According to workplace guidelines, an illumination intensity of 300 lux is recommended to work on machine tools. Much more than is necessary for the SDI to be operational.
The ID-S comparator also incorporates the Absolute technology developed by Mitutoyo. It has state-of-the-art technical features:
- An accuracy of 0.003 m
- A capacity of 12.7 mm
- A measuring force? 1.5N
- A 6-digit LCD display
- One insert carbide ball, M 2.5 x 0.45 mm thread
