Germany's Carl Zeiss announces the acquisition of the American company Xradispecialized in X-ray 3D microscopes. Xradia will take the name Carl Zeiss X-ray Microscopy.
XRadia's X-ray microscopes are used in the research world for advanced materials, geology and natural resources, semiconductor process optimization and life sciences.
Carl Zeiss is best known for his measuring machines of all kinds, but in recent years he has greatly expanded his register and offers optical, electronic, ion and X-ray microscopes. X-ray microscopes will allow it to expand its skills while strengthening its positions across the Atlantic.
Carl Zeiss achieved a turnover of 4.16 billion euros in its last fiscal year (ended at the end of September 2012), with a workforce of 24,300. The "Microscopy" activity amounted to 650 million euros.
