A camera to assist the man on the assembly lines

The Ricoh SC-10 camera inspection system is designed to provide mounting instructions to operators and verify that each step has been performed correctly. Already having a major impact on many manufacturing lines in Japan, this camera system, simple and autonomous, is now available in Europe, exclusively at Stemmer imaging.
A set of assembly instructions is first recorded in the system, then displays on a screen while the camera scans the room. The assembly operator follows the instructions on the screen. After each action, the system compares the result with the correct image it has in memory before allowing the next action to be taken. This reduces errors, helps operators learn new tasks, and provides a digital history of all operations.

The Ricoh SC-10 camera automatically checks the condition of the assembly and immediately identifies incorrect or missing items using pattern, color and texture comparison tools. Used in conjunction with a barcode reader, it can record the serial number of the part as well as the user's identification number and select the appropriate work instructions. Each step completed is recorded in a CSV file, with an indication of the time spent performing the task and, as an option, an image of the inspection. The camera can also be used for the analysis and traceability of assembly tasks.

The camera is equipped with internal software, configurable with a mouse and keyboard to connect directly via USB. The mounting instructions and inspection status are displayed on a screen directly connected to the camera via HDMI. The use of a PC is therefore not necessary. The configuration and work instructions as well as the inspection history can be stored on the built-in SD card or on another network storage location via the built-in Ethernet port.

The camera has the following functions:

  • Check the correct number of parts needed for assembly.
  • Checking the layout of the parts.
  • Check the correct progress of the work according to the instructions displayed on the screen.
  • Detection of missing parts.
  • Checking the accuracy of the product assembled and detecting errors.
  • Visual control to remove human errors and save on manual error correction costs.
  • Control of the accuracy of the packaging in accordance with the instructions.

The Ricoh SC-10 system is available in a high-magnification or standard version. The addition of a high magnification lens allows you to inspect smaller parts, for example on circuit boards, or to inspect with a wider field of view.
