Hexagon strengthens its capabilities in Industry 4.0, standalone solutions and digital twins with the acquisition of CADLM.

Hexagon AB, the world's leading provider of sensors, software and standalone systems, has announced the takeover of CADLM SAS, a pioneer in combining computer-aided engineering (IAO) with artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning, to revolutionize the impact of simulation on product development processes and life cycles.

Founded in 1989, CADLM, based in France, has years of experience in developing computational design and optimization methods for industrial products and processes, and has been developing AI and machine learning solutions since 2014.

Its Odyssee software platform applies AI and machine learning to real-world sensor data and physics-based simulation data to produce accurate, predictive models of a product at efficient computing power levels.

The combination allows for faster and more efficient simulations of dynamic and multi-physical phenomena, such as crashes and car safety, that characterize and fully understand the actual behaviour of products.

This efficiency allows engineers to explore the design space in more in depth and interactively and improve next-generation products without prohibitive cost or computational time.

In addition, the widespread use of the digital twin beyond the early design phase allows manufacturers to take advantage of image recognition, predictive simulation and defect prediction to address challenges such as downtime, performance, quality and flexibility throughout the manufacturing process.

"The convergence of the IAO with advances in data management, AI, machine learning and an increasingly connected manufacturing lifecycle is transforming the industry's ability to meet increasingly complex design challenges through rapid innovation and increased productivity,"said Ola Rollén, President and CEO of Hexagon.

"CADLM's knowledge and AI technology further strengthens our portfolio of smart manufacturing solutions by using data to advance the early design phase to improve product design innovation, manufacturing productivity, product quality and environmental sustainability by reducing material waste."

CADLM will be part of Hexagon's Manufacturing Intelligence division.
