On February 18, 2020, Agnès Pannier-Runacher, Secretary of State to the Minister of the Economy and Finance, Antoine Legros, Chairman of the Institut de Soudure Group, Abdelkrim Chehaibou, Managing Director of the Institut de Soudure and Director of Research and Expertise for the Institut de Soudure Group, and Caroline Demoyer, Head of Institutional Relations at Symop, signed the Contract of Objectives and Performance, which binds the Institut de Soudure as an industrial technical center (CTI) to Symop and the French State for the period 2020-2023.
This unique document commits the French government, Symop and the Institut de Soudure, recognized as a CTI for welding and advanced controls, to a performance-based approach.
Founded in 1905 to support the development of welding in France and train personnel in best practices, the Institut de Soudure was recognized as an industrial technical center in 1977.
The Welding Institute's 2020-2023 contract of objectives and performance is divided into four strategic areas that meet the expectations of companies in the major industrial sectors of oil & gas, nuclear, aeronautics, transport and metal construction.
- Industry of the future: developing multi-material assemblies, additive manufacturing and process robotization;
- Ecological and energy transition for the transport sector: contributing to the mastery of processes aimed at lightening and enhancing the performance of welded structures;
- Sustainable, optimized management of industrial facilities: make French industrial facilities safe, reliable and sustainable; improve the performance of manufacturing processes through the use of connected technologies and data science, and extend the lifespan of equipment;
Skills for industry and new training offerings: maintain courses of excellence for economic players (SMEs, major groups, local authorities) at all levels (from high school students to engineers, from apprentices to jobseekers); develop 4.0 training tools to meet new industrial needs and practices, driven by digital technology and the development of factory-of-the-future technologies.
Among the CTI's emblematic actions included in the objectives and performance contract are the development of arc-wire and laser-wire additive manufacturing technologies to promote their industrialization, multi-material welding applications with technology transfer to industry, complete solutions for innovative welding and monitoring processes, and augmented reality training equipment.
