Sofradir , manufacturer of infrared detectors for military, space and industrial applications, and Onera , the French aerospace research center, have just presented a new infrared detector incorporating panoramic optics (Fisheye optics - 360 ° lens) in the frame of the SPIE show, which took place from April 26 to 28 in Orlando.
The Fisheye optics integrated into Sofradir's infrared detectors will save space for anti-missile systems by reducing the number of lenses used, which improves optical transmission and therefore sensitivity. Indeed, this new infrared detector based on MCT (Mercury Telluride Cadmium) technology from Sofradir has a single lens that offers a 360 ° image, unlike other systems which use several optical elements to generate a 360 ° view. The integration of a 360 ° lens in the infrared detector provides an improvement in the overall image quality of anti-missile systems.
